Measurements on optically pumped cesium vapor frequency standard
Abstract
Preliminary data on optically pumped Cs vapor obtained using a hyperfine filter with good efficiency for Cs resonance lines have provided a basis for the construction of a Cs vapor passive frequency standard. A signal corresponding to resonance between two hyperfine levels of the Cs ground state was obtained at the output of the photodetector with different absorption cells containing nitrogen and cesium vapor. The operating temperature of the pumping cell was raised to 40-55 C using a cesium-potassium alloy without observable degradation of the signal. The temperature and pressure coefficients for the nitrogen buffer gas were evaluated. A very low relative light shift was measured.
