Measuring the temperature of the neutral atmosphere with the RIM-901 device
Abstract
A RIM-901 manometer that was mounted at the nose of the Cosmos 320 satellite to measure neutral temperatures is described. Neutral temperature fluctuations, similar to the previously observed ion temperature fluctuations, were recorded near the equator during the evening hours. The fluctuations are attributed to the passage of atmospheric gravitational waves generated by the equatorial electrojet.
