Polarizing devices for the submillimeter range
Abstract
Metallic-film polarizers of submillimeter radiation are devised on the basis of linear metallic grids with thin dielectric backings. The spectral and polarizing properties of these devices are investigated in the range between 40 and 1000 micrometers. A comparison between the present polarizers and wire ones shows that the former may be used in the short-wave part (up to 100 micrometers) of the submillimeter range. Designs are considered for twin-wave polarizing interferometers intended for submillimeter Fourier spectroscopy as well as polarimetry.
