Analytical comparative study of spacecraft injection systems
Abstract
Main design features and application areas are summarized of four propulsion module concepts for orbit transfer and injection, based on the availability of high reliability propulsion components from the Symphonie program. Advantages of liquid propulsion modules for their high versatility are underlined. The development of a European propulsion module family would cover all the different mission tasks foreseeable for the next decade, geosynchronous apogee injection of smaller satellites, geocentric bi-impulse transfer of larger TV broadcasting satellites, shuttle and tug missions, and planetary probes.
