Lunar soil from the Sea of Fertility
Abstract
The papers deal with extensive studies of the lunar soil sample returned to earth by Luna 16 and of some Apollo samples. The physical, mechanical, optical, and other properties of lunar regolith and rock fragments, their chemical composition and the distribution of rare elements are studied by X-ray structural analysis, X-ray spectroscopic analysis, electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, Moessbauer spectrometry, electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis, activation analysis, and other modern methods. Rb-Sr age determinations of lunar magnetic rocks are shown to be comparable to the ages of terrestrial geological formations. Individual items are announced in this issue.-
