Mode multiplexing in optical communications
Abstract
A simplified optical communications system is proposed. A Transversely Adjusted Gap (TAG) laser mode multiplexer produces modulated optical carriers with generous guard bands. One communications channel is carried by each carrier. The optical mode multiplex signal is convenient for amplification, full or partial demultiplexing and two-way communications with one laser.
