Practical prediction of a laser beam's off-axis signature
Abstract
The utility of mathematical models of the effects of the atmosphere on a laser beam is considered and an investigation of the characteristics of the atmospheric effects is conducted. Atmospheric model requirements are examined, taking into account the importance of a general and flexible approach in modeling. Several computerized mathematical models have been developed for predicting the atmospheric scatter of laser beams. One simple model generates the three-dimensional constant irradiance contour of a ground-based pulsed laser.
