Cost effective ERTS laser display system
Abstract
An ERTS system test was conducted to demonstrate that full performance image transmission can be obtained with cost effective subsystems. The test was also to show that system flexibility can be retained under the considered conditions. Digitized image data from the MSS scanner of the ERTS satellite was received at a NASA ground station and recorded on magnetic tape. In the investigation the tape was played back and the data processed in a minicomputer. A laser recorder converted the data to a film transparence. The laser recorder has sufficient power to expose fine grain film directly while operating in real time, and the spot is small enough to reproduce the small area contrast provided by the sensor.
