Acceleration of ions in heavy-current electron beams
Abstract
The formation of heavy current electron beams and the acceleration of ions in beams using a coaxial injector as the plasma source are reported. Experimental results show that plasma emitters can be used for obtaining electron beams with a current of 10,000 to 100,000 A and higher. The perveance of plasma electron sources considerably exceeds the perveance of other sources, including cold emitters. The plasma emitters are promising for obtaining electron beams of approximately 1 million A.
