A study of passive darkening solutions in a ruby laser resonator
Abstract
Experimental study of the dependence of the coefficient of damping of the output emission peaks of a ruby laser on the temperature of the darkening passive Q switch in the range from 300 to 400 K. The darkening passive Q switches employed were solutions of 1,3-diphenylbutadiene-1,4 (DPB) in chloroform and dichloroethane. On the basis of the results obtained, it is concluded that a change in the lifetime of the triplet state of the DPB molecules occurs. In addition, at a certain temperature self-sustained oscillations are found to occur, which are attributed to modulation caused by stereoisomerization of the DPB molecules.
