Nuclear astrophysics.
Abstract
A number of basic aspects of element synthesis in stellar objects are considered along with conclusions based on results obtained in studies of the nuclear physics of neutron-star structure. Conditions in the interior of a cloud of protons which contracts under the influence of gravitational forces are examined, taking into account the basic nuclear reactions. Attention is given to conditions in a red giant, the s process, supernovae, and the r process. Questions of element synthesis under explosive conditions are discussed along with neutron stars, a hypothetical nuclear matter, and aspects of superfluidity in neutron matter.
