Character alignment for high capacity PCM systems using MS43 line code
Abstract
Character alignment problems were investigated with special reference to the pseudoternary code MS43. The self aligning characteristics of this code are discussed. The statistical properties of the alignment loss and recovery processes for the MS43 code were analyzed theoretically and by computer simulation with reference to the method of recognition of the constraints and correlations due to the conversion rules of the alphabetic code and to a strategy similar to the one used for frame alignment in PCM-TDM systems. The results of the investigation were used to design the character alignment strategy for a 34.368 Mbit/s PCM system using MS43 as a line code.
