Target angle determination with a 20 lobe antenna radiation pattern
Abstract
Possible weightings proper to a 3-dimensional radar detection performance are described for the case of a receiving paraboloid antenna pattern synthesized by 20 single patterns of spatially separated feed horns. Based on the patterns of an antenna model measured at the 20 discrete feedpoints, weightings were examined for sidelobe reduction which can be realized by means of suitable RF-networks as well as by computerized evaluation. Weightings were investigated for target angle determination. With regard to the establishment of two-dimensional difference curves, weighting coefficients for the 20 single patterns are given and parameters for simple approximations of the difference curves tabulated for quick evaluation. The different tolerance effects were examined and the resulting target angle errors computed.
