Phase manipulation
Abstract
The input oscillation undergoes preliminary (pre-detector) narrow-band filtration by a filter in the background of intrinsic fluctuating receiver noise, approximated by normal white noise, during reception with phase measurement. In this case the sum of the signal and the fluctuating noise at the linear filter output can be considered as a narrowband normal random process whose one-dimensional phase distribution function is known. It is shown that the phase distribution law of the reference oscillation depends on the method of its shaping and that the narrowband filter performing the pre-detector filtration is a necessary element of the receiver measuring the phase. The phase comparison method reduces reception to a time shifting of successively following samples for comparison of the phases of these samples in a phase detector.
