Scattering of background molecules in free jet expansions studied by free molecular flat plate drag measurements
Abstract
The background scattering in a highly rarefied hypersonic free jet is studied, theoretically and experimentally. A free molecular flat plate placed parallel to the flow direction is used as the tool for these investigations. The drag of the flat plate is studied as a function of the background pressure in the free jet.
