A rocket-borne polychromator for auroral studies
Abstract
The R239 polychromator can record continuously six wavelength intervals in the 1300-6000 angstrom range. It is superior to an array of photometers when observing ultraviolet features or fluctuating sources. The optical and mechanical design are described. The configuration and detection capabilities of R239 polychromators used in two C78 rocket flights are given. Future experiments can use accessories such as fixed or up-down mobile mirrors, diffusing entrance cells, polarizers, telescopes, or collimators.
