Competing scaling laws in deep inelastic hadron collisions
Abstract
Using a variable equivalent to the one proposed by Bloom and Gilman in electroproduction, we show that high pT NAL and ISR data are consistent with the scaling law pnTEd3σ/dp3=F(2pT/√s, θ) for both n = 4 (scale independence) and n = 8 (e.g. the rearrangement model). The mass scale introduced in the n = 4 model (gluon mass?) is about a factor three larger than the one required for the n = 8 case in order to achieve consistency with the present data. Potentially fruitful experimental explorations are discussed.
