The calculation of the characteristics of semiconductor diodes
Abstract
The system of differential equations which represents the current flow conditions in semiconductors is examined. A closed analytical solution of the system cannot be obtained. It is pointed out that the existing approximation procedures for the derivation of the equations of the characteristics contain certain assumptions. In connection with these assumptions it is desirable to obtain numerical solutions of the complete system of differential equations as a control measure. Attention is given to a recombination model for gold in silicon, aspects of charge carrier multiplication, direct current calculations, the numerical solution for the case of quasi-neutrality, the numerical solution of the complete system, and the calculation of circuit characteristics.
