The determination of the attitude of a solar probe by means of Kalman filtering
Abstract
The design of a Kalman filter for the determination of the attitude of a spin-stabilized satellite in solar orbit is discussed. The attitude of the spin axis is to be determined on the basis of measurements conducted with a solar sensor which is aligned in a direction perpendicular to the spin axis. The employment of a two-stage filter is recommended. The effects of prefiltering on the Kalman filter are investigated.
