Study of the microstructure of objects by the methods of coherent optics
Abstract
Use of holography and coherent optics to gain quantitative information about such objects as biological tissue, metals, and building materials is described. Small-angle light scattering and matched spatial filtering are discussed at length. Spatial filtering methods make it possible to isolate and study selectively various structural components on a complex noise background. Some of the recent developments in the field are surveyed, and existing equipment is evaluated. New techniques using laser are described.
