Observed properties of the interstellar magnetic field
Abstract
The paper reviews present knowledge of the field strength, large scale structure and small scale structure of the interstellar magnetic field. Field strength in interstellar H I clouds is plotted as a function of the hydrogen density. Large scale structure is studied for the Cygnus region and the north galactic pole on the basis of interstellar polarization. Small scale structure is studied near the alpha Persei cluster and in the Orion aggregate also on the basis of interstellar polarization.
