Ionospheric constraints of mesospheric nitric oxide
Abstract
Results of ionospheric measurements of different types carried out to define an acceptable range of mesospheric NO concentration. The measurements discussed are based on controlled experiments monitoring changes in mesospheric ionization during solar flares, studies of the solar cycle variation in ionization and of the ionization reversal level, observations of changes in the ratio of the two molecular ions NO(+) and O2(+) and an analysis of the gradual loss of solar control in the diurnal variation of electron density at levels below 70 km.-
