Attenuation of a plane shock wave in a condensed inhomogeneous medium
Abstract
Shock propagation in a medium with a two-term equation of state (one term allowing for the thermal motion of the atoms, and the other for the elastic interatomic forces) is analyzed. The thermal excitation of electrons in the shock is neglected. The expressions obtained can be used to study the influence of inhomogeneous initial properties of the medium on the shock propagation in the medium. The propagation rate can be controlled by selecting the proper medium.
