Elements for array antennas
Abstract
Elements are anything from simple passive radiating structures to complex integrated modules containing, in addition to the radiator itself, magnetic or solid state devices for phase and polarization control and signal processing. In all cases element structures exhibit an interface with an RF feed structure and a front interface with free space. Elements for array antennas are discrete components providing the transition between the array feed structure and free space. Element units include phase shifters (the most critical component), radiators, and transceiver modules. Comprehensive tables accompany descriptions of the various types of elements and their uses and costs.
