The INTELSAT satellite communications network
Abstract
Attention is given to INTELSAT satellite communications. INTELSAT IV, capable of both global- and spot-beam coverage, is limited by bandwidth rather than by instantaneous power. This satellite is flexible so as to accommodate various modulation and multiple access methods. The operating formats of the INTELSAT IV are frequency-division multiplexing, frequency modulation, and frequency domain multiple access. Demand-assignment multiple-access techniques may be used for conducting two-way communication by earth stations among themselves through the same satellite. The development of INTELSAT IV-A and other future programs are discussed.
