Lines of neutral barium and the abundance of barium in two K supergiants.
Abstract
The abundance of barium in the late supergiants E Peg and HR 4050 relative to the classical barium star HR 5058 is derived from the strengths of the weak Ba I lines, obtained from highresolution echelle plates. Both stars are found to have essentially solar values of Ba/H and Ba/Fe. It is suggested that the observed strengths of the Ba II lines are due largely to their dependence on microturbulence and that reported overabundances based on these lines in E Peg and other K supergiants are in error.
