Computing laminar boundary layers with the von Mises equation
Abstract
A particular form of the von Mises equation for incompressible flow was developed with a brief description of an efficient method for its solution. Some numerical results are presented. A comparison and numerical details for Howarth's flow and for circular arc airfoils were considered. The separation point in all of the flows considered was accurately located by an extrapolation technique based on the Goldstein expansion. The presented method was shown to be a good procedure for solving boundary-layer problems in compressible fluids.
