The iron-rich stars HR 511 and HR 7670.
Abstract
Summary. An iron abundance of [Fe/H] = +0.36 has been obtained from a differential line blanketed model atmosphere analysis of the Fe I spectrum of the low velocity K 0 V star HR 511. Similarly, an abundance of [Fe/H]. = +0.26 has been obtained for HR 7670, a high velocity G 6 subgiant. The first star has a large parallax, and it may lie slightly below the main sequence defined by the majority of nearby stars. The second star has an estimated age of about 8 x t0 yr, a result contrary to the hypothesis that the oldest stars in the Galaxy should be metal poor. Key words: iron-rich stars - HR diagram
