IME-D study for a revised thermal control. Phase 1: Criteria for the selection of solution (volumes 1 and 2)
Abstract
A thermal concept for the IME-D satellite is described. The proposed passive thermal system with remotely controlled heaters satifies the requirements for the satellite. The use of louvers or shutters is not necessary. A conductive and radiative thermal insulation is foreseen between the satellite core and the external surfaces. The thermal control surface is adapted in order to maintain roughly 20 C inner mean temperature for the good functioning of equipment. A power budget was derived using a mathematical model.
