New induction motors: Design and testing
Abstract
A new method of testing induction motors (phantom loading) and the design and tests of induction motors with novel windings are described. Phantom loading enables a complete heat-run test for two identical induction motors to be carried out by purely electrical means. This is done by feeding dc current into the stator windings of the two machines in such a way that the direction of the dc current in one phase is opposite to the directions in the two other phases. Two new techniques for pole amplitude modulation windings are described: the side-by-side symmetrization and transposition.
