A statistical method for synthesizing arbitrary radiation patterns in phased arrays
Abstract
Phased arrays for a multipurpose radar system are required to arbitrarily vary a shape of radiation pattern to enlarge the function. In this paper a technique is described to synthesize an arbitrary radiation pattern by varying the phase shift of a quantized phase shifter in a statistical way; its technique is applicable to a large aperture phased array with many elements.
