Optical Observations of the Supernova in NGC 5253
Abstract
THE Type I supernova in NGC 5253 discovered recently by Kowal1 is of particular interest because of its brightness (mv ~ 8.5) and because it is the second supernova to occur in this peculiar galaxy in the past 100 years. The galaxy is well placed for observation from Cerro Tololo, and we report here the initial results obtained from rather extensive studies. The observations have been summarized in Table 1.
