On the outburst of cataclysmic variables.

It is proposed that outbursts of classical, recurrent and dwarf novae originate in rotating white dwarf stars. The consequent excitation of non-radial oscillations leads to a satisfactory understanding of the non-spherical ejection of nova shells.
