Stellar kinematics in the Sco OB 1 association.
Abstract
Summary. From an earlier paper (H II regions in the Sco OB1 association) we could deduce that the gas belonging to this association is clumping into two subgroups. This paper deals with the stellar study where we show that the same subgroups appear among the stars: two stellar groups can be distinguished which behave differently in kinematics. These subgroups coincide with the gaseous subgroups. The stars of the southern group are concerned with an expansion which affects both proper motions and radial velocities. The effect is more significant than what will be expected from the mean error alone. Lack of data allowed no conclusion about expansion within the northern group. The agreement is good for the radial velocities obtained from stars and from H ii regions within each group; this shows that the different components of the association (stars and gas) originated from the same initial cloud. Key words: association - subgroups - expansion
