The measurement of radiation from industrial flames
Abstract
Two instruments are used regularly during furnace trials to provide basic information on the sources and sinks of thermal radiation in flames, the narrow angle radiometer and the suction radiometer. An ellipsoidal probe is also used to measure the total radiative flux arriving from a hemispherical space at a surface element. The construction and method of operation of these probes are described and examples of their use in recent trials are given.
