Distribution of B8-A3 Stars near the Galactic Plane. 1. Galactic Longitudes 50' to 150'
Abstract
Counts of B8-A3 stars to a limiting magnitude V =13 along the galactic plane from 1=500 to 1500 and, in general, between b = 5 and +50 have yielded: (i) contour maps showing the surface distribution, and indicating several high-density areas; (ii) approximate space densities (corrected for interstellar ab- sorption) to a distance of 1 kpc from the sun. There is some indication that the A-star population in the local spiral feature tends to be concentrated toward the galactic center side of that feature. The A-star population in the interarm region (500<1<700) at 250 and 500 pc from the Sun is less than half that in the nearer parts of the local spiral feature in the range 950<1<1500. The detailed results of the survey are displayed in histogram form.
