Extraterrestrial Y Ray Contribution between 0.7 MeV and 4.5 MeV at Balloon Altitude
Abstract
The comparison of ray results obtained through balloon flights at different latitudes enables an extraterrestrial contribution for rays to be detected in the 1-5MeV energy range. The method for obtaining this 7 ray flux and its spectrum is described for a flight at low latitude (Guiana 10 0N). Our results seem to confirm the ERS 18 measurements in a similar energy range and to prove that the 7 ray cosmic component can be detected through balloon experiments. Other flights with larger detectors are planned to confirm these results and increase precision in the determination of this spectrum with, at the same time, an attempt to extend the spectrum at higher energy.
