The effect of rapid rotation on radiation from stars. III. Strong helium I lines.
Abstract
For main sequence models of rapidly rotating stars of 3.55 to 8.1 solar masses (identical with those of papers I and II of this series), line proffles of He I 4471 and 4026 are computed in the LTE approach, replacing the earlier (inadequate) computations of He I 5875 of paper II. The conclusions of paper II are not changed by the new results - in particular, the broadest-lined stars can be understood as rotating near maximum speed. The new computations may aid detection of rapid rotators viewedunderintermediate angles. The consequences of an error in the paper by Roxburgh et al. (1965) on the results of papers I, II and III are briefly discussed. Key words: stellar rotation - He I absorption lines
