The vibration of mechanical resonators (I) uniform rings and discs
Abstract
The equations governing the radial and torsional vibrations of thin uniform discs and rings are derived and solved by two methods. The exact solution is compared with a computer solution derived by using a transfer matrix technique. The computer solution is used to prepare design charts showing how the dimensionless frequency parameter and the ratios of the displacements and stresses at the inner and outer radii vary with the parameter, η, which is the ratio (inner radius)/(outer radius), and with Poisson's ratio ν.
