High-energy orbits in barred spirals
Abstract
In the field of a Jacobi's ellipsoid orbits are investigated which have sufficiently high energy to be per- mitted (by virtue of the integral of energy) to pass through any point in space. Most of the orbits considered remain close to the ellipsoid. Speculation in an earlier paper that the characteristics of these orbits indicated the existence of another useful integral of the motion is disproved. However, the methods used serve to provide a qualitative description of the orbits that is valid at least over times comparable to the ages of the galaxies.
