Alfvén Wave Generation in a Spherical System
Abstract
Magnetohydrodynamic waves were generated by small amplitude oscillation of a dielectric sphere in a mercury-filled spherical shell in a longitudinal magnetic field. The velocity of the waves was determined by creating a standing wave resonance. The waves were moving with Alfvén velocity.
