A method for measuring aerodynamic damping of helicopter rotors in forward flight
Abstract
A method is described for measuring the aerodynamic derivatives of rotor blades in a wind tunnel by applying a random perturbation. The variation in zero lag correlation of the flapping angle with azimuth position is analysed by specially developed equipment, and the result is compared with computed responses independently of absolute values. This yields a value for the effective aerodynamic damping. Sufficient exploratory work has been done to show that the method is feasible but an improved approach to the computed responses is needed.
