The analysis of the double resonance spectrum of N-methylformamide
Abstract
The double resonance technique is used to decouple N 14 nuclei from protons in various amides. A complete analysis of the spectrum of N-methylformamide as an ABX 3 system is then possible. The coupling constant between the carbonyl proton and the amide proton increases when N-methylformamide is diluted with water. This indicates that the planar form of the amide is favored by interaction with the water solvent.
