The rotational spectrum of ozone
Abstract
Frequencies and intensities have been calculated for the lines of the rotational spectrum of ozone which are likely to contribute noticeably either to microwave absorption or to atmospheric absorption in the far infrared. The frequencies of these lines range from 0 to about 2,700,000 Mc/sec (∼90 cm -1). An estimate of the maximum absorption coefficient of the predicted lines is given for T = 220°K, the average temperature of the atmospheric ozone layer. The results obtained may also prove useful in the analysis of the rotational fine structure of the ozone bands. The values of the molecular constants used in the calculations have been determined from the frequencies of ozone microwave absorption lines measured by Hughes and Trambarulo et al.
