Suprathermal Particle Generation in the Solar Corona.
Abstract
It is shown that hydromagnetic waves propagating outward through the solar corona will convert all but a small portion of their energy into suprathermal particles It is suggested that this is the source, of the 3 X 1028 ergs/sec necessary to maintain the 2 X 108 0K solar corona with its continued expansion into the solar wind The temperature of the solar corona will then correspond to an ion thermal velocity of the same order of magnitude as the hydromagnetic wave velocity.
