The Raman spectrum of methane- d4
Abstract
The Raman spectrum of gaseous CD 4 was photographed at a gas pressure of 1 atmos and a reciprocal linear dispersion of 10.5 cm -1 per mm. An analysis of the O and S branches of the ν2 band gave B0 = 2.631 cm -1. Further analysis gave the upper state rotational constants for the ν2 and ν3 bands. Unusual features of these bands, previously reported for CH 4 ( 1, 2) are also present in CD 4. For both bands the derived rotational constants differ somewhat from recent infrared results. A new assignment of the ν1 Raman band has been made.
