An investigation of stellar motions: VII. McCormick spectral statistics according to galacticlongitude
Abstract
From the spectral statistics of the two McCormick Catalogues in the latitude zones +11deg to + 20deg and -11deg to -20deg, it appears that the space density of A stars at a distance of 600 parsecs toward the galactic center is probably about the same as at an equal distance toward the anticenter, but that the red giants show a marked decrease in space densities in the same range. The statistics in lower latitudes are not suitable for similar analysis, since, in the crowded regions, many red giants are unclassifiable because of overlapping spectra.
