Research in atmospheric electricity at the Stanford University
Abstract
The observation-hut mentioned in last year's report has been completed and equipped so that at present continuous records of space-charge and potential gradient are being obtained at two different levels, one near the surface and the other at the top of a pole 16 meters above the surface. Wind-direction and wind-speed are also being recorded.A very marked correlation has been observed between the wind-speed and consequent turbulence and the magnitude of the space-charge. This result was presented in a paper before the American Physical Society at Pasadena in June, 1931 (Abstract, Phys. Rev., v. 38, p. 587). Publication of the paper has been delayed until more records have been obtained.
