Ariel, The Atmospheric remote-sensing infrared exoplanet large-survey: Host stars affecting the Atmospheres of their Planets
Abstract
The recently adopted Ariel mission, the atmospheric remote-sensing infrared exoplanet large-survey, is the M4 mission within the Cosmic Vision science programme of ESA. The top level science objective of Ariel is to take the study of exoplanets to the next level by providing direct independent information of (bulk) chemical composition of a statistically large and diverse sample of known exoplanets (≥ 500) covering a wide range of masses, densities, equilibrium temperatures, orbital properties and host-star characteristics. It is the first mission dedicated to measuring the chemical composition and thermal structures of hundreds of transiting exoplanets, surveying simultaneously in visible and infrared wavelengths and enabling planetary science far beyond the boundaries of the Solar System.In this poster we focus on discussing the influence of Ariel host stars on the atmospheres of their planets.
