Design of CO2 Removal System for an Environmental Control & Life Support System
Abstract
In order to carry out the manned space exploration missions such as the Moon & Mars exploration and to live on the International Space Station (ISS), habitation facilities & modules that ensurethe safe lives of astronauts are essential. These habitation modules should be equipped with an environmental control & life support system (ECLSS) that provides air and water for astronauts to live as safely as on Earth. This paper is intended to introduce the research being carried out by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) for the development of an environmental control & life support system technology, which is essential for future manned space exploration. Especially, the development of a ground model of a carbon dioxide removal system, one of the important part of the air management system, will be introduced.
